About
This project began as research on two murals in my hometown of Seneca, Kansas, that have caught my eye any time I walk or drive down Main Street. Seneca is a town with rich history, as it was one of the first towns settled in the area, and established in 1857. Since then it has been a thriving community that currently has a little over 2,000 people living in it. The main business district is located on Main Street and has a few of the original buildings still standing and in use today. Once I started digging I realized there was so much about the town I grew up in that I did not know about.
My goal is to spark curiosity and interest in Seneca’s history with the locals that live there. In order to gain this type of attraction, I need to go big. I want to create an event that displays the murals how they looked when they were freshly painted, without destroying the remnants of the original paintings that are still there. From old photographs and newspaper ads, I illustrated recreations of the murals and created mockups of what the murals looked like when they were new.
